At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
  1. Summarize the history of the opioid epidemic and resulting changes in regulatory requirements
  2. Outline initiatives which aim to reduce opioid prescribing and promote pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic alternatives to opioids in the Emergency Department (ED)
  3. Evaluate the evidence base surrounding utilization of opioid-alternative medications for pain in the ED
  4. Describe creation of order panels within the electronic medical record (EMR) to promote the utilization of opioid-alternative medications in practice
